Degree of reduction of lactic acid (C3H6O3) is :-

Degree of reduction = [Sum(Number of each atom multiply by its valence          electron)] /  Total number of Carbon atoms.

 = [3(4)+6(1)+3(-2)]/3

= 4 answer.
